We will
rock you – London – October 4th 2006 and October 6th 2006
I usually
watch We will rock you at least once whenever I’m in London. And now that I was
spending several days in town I even managed to see the show twice. The cast was
the same for both evenings except for some people in the ensemble so I’ll just
do one review for both shows.
I still love
the London version of this show. It’s definitely not as great as it used to be
when I first saw it back in 2003. This is mainly due to some script changes
which I just don’t like. But still this show remains to be highly enjoyable for
me.
Galileo:
Peter Johansson
Ok, I know I’m biased but I just love seeing him as Galileo. It’s great to see
he is having such a good time in this show. And he totally deserves to be the
lead. I adore his „Who wants to live forever“.
Peter has achieved so much over the last few years and he totally deserves it.
He’s a talented singer and an awesome performer.
His Galileo is very naive which suits the part very well if you ask me. And I
think him and Jenna work so well together… it’s a pleasure to see those two
perform together!
So, here’s to many more shows: Go Sweden! ;-)
Scaramouche:
Jenna Lee James
It was quite obvious that she was having minor problems with her voice during
both shows I watched. But still she did a fantastic job. She really has made
Scaramouche her own. I just love seeing her on stage!
Khashoggi:
Alex Bourne
He
has become my favourite Khashoggi by now. I love the way he plays the part –
evil but still with a twinkle in his eye. And that high note he hits during
„Seven seas of rhye“ is amazing!
Killerqueen:
Mazz Murray
I love her! Basically that’s all I’d need to say. She is the Killerqueen.
Perfect acting, the most amazing voice and – wow – what a stage presence. Never
seen anyone play this part as fantastic as she does and I doubt anyone will ever
replace her as my all time favourite Killerqueen.
Britney:
Colin Charles
Still don’t like the Kung Fu bits they added to the show but that’s not Colin’s
fault. He actually managed to make me half smile with the way he is using that
stupid Kung Fu stuff.
Really like his voice – „I want it all“ was faultless.
Meat: Rachael
Wooding
She really has found her own way of playing the character. Very confident on
stage and her „No-one but you“ was fantastic. Vocally not as strong as Kerry
Ellis or Jenna Lee James but still very, very good!
Pop: Jeff
Shankley
I
love all the little bits he added to the character. Always great to see him on
stage. Plus his „These are the days“ is wonderful!
Rebel Leader:
Craig Ryder
The rebel leader is now Robbie Williams which leaves Khashoggi saying „Now Mr.
Williams… let ME entertain YOU“ just before the end of the first act. Craig did
great in both shows I watched. Actually I’d be interested to see him as Galileo
but somehow I doubt I’ll ever get the chance to see him. ;)
Ensemble
Not totally sure but I think there was a full ensemble on October 4th.
Definitely two swings on October 6th: Alison Dormer and Luke Alleva (don’t know
if there were any other swings on I’m afraid). I was extremely happy I got to
see Luke one last time as I always enjoyed seeing him on stage.
All in all
two great shows and I’m looking forward to seeing We will rock you again in
November!
And here's the lovely Luke Alleva...
